Best Things To Do for Whisky Month in Edinburgh

May is Whisky Month! As part of Scotland's Year of Food and Drink, the entire month is dedicated to all things whisky. There's a variety of great events taking place throughout May so, whether you're a whisky expert or novice, this is a great time to get more familiar with Scotland's National Drink.

Glenmorangie, Cheese and Chocolate Tasting – 14th May

Your taste buds will be tantalised at this tempting tasting session at Juniper. Taking place in the splendid surroundings of the Juniper library, you'll sample some fantastic Glenmorangie single malts perfectly paired with carefully selected cheeses and Edinburgh-based, organic Coco Chocolate.

Create. Eat. Whisky – 14th to 17th May

Brought to you by Jelly and Gin, Create. Eat. Whisky is back and promises to take you on an exciting journey of sights, sounds and scents. Teaming up with Haig Club to showcase whisky cocktails at their finest, they've created different multi-sensory settings and drink cocktails alongside small edible items, each designed to match the different environments. This will be a whisky experience like no other. 

The ticket price of £33 includes three whisky cocktails per person, paired with small tastes of food to enhance the experience. Tickets can be purchased from www.jellyandgin.com

World Whisky Day Gold Tour – 16th May

Tours at the Scotch Whisky Experience are always an enjoyable experience but for World Whisky Day on 16th May they've got something extra special planned. Their World Whisky Day Gold Tour will include samples of some unusual editions of four regional single malts paired with a chocolate tasting. This special tour is available only for World Whisky Day and will give you the chance to see the Scotch Whisky Experience's beautiful Castlehill room with an exclusive viewing of their new specially commissioned whisky inspired artworks and installations. After the tour has ended head down to the Whisky Shop to chat to the chaps from Bruadar and Ginger Tam’s Liqueurs and sample a Scotch Whisky Liqueur.

To book a place on this special tour book a “Gold Tour” on the Scotch Whisky Experience website then request and additional upgrade to “World Whisky Day Gold” (additional £6) when you arrive at the ticket desk. 

World Whisky Day Party – 16th May

Join in the official World Whisky Day After Party at Angel’s Share for a lively night of whisky, cocktails and music. Head along from 8pm to mingle with other whisky enthusiasts and enjoy special offers on selected drams and cocktails and music from vibrant gypsy jazz band, Viper Swing, and funk and soul fusion duo, Shaka Loves You.

The event is free and unticketed.

The Whisky Stramash – 23rd and 24th May

The Whisky Stramash brings together some of the best whiskies from around the world all under one roof. At this year's event there is expected to be over 200 whiskies available to be sampled and purchased. If you're not a whisky expert never fear there are some knowledgeable whisky ambassadors on hand who can help answer your questions and give tips. The Whisky Stramash always keeps a few surprises up its sleeve though, none more so than their “experiences” which you'll find out more about when you head along.

New for this year the Whisky Stramash will be hosting a Secret Event in a secret location on 22nd May. So far the only details that have been revealed are that it's a lively, social event with some of the finest cocktails in Edinburgh and a headline act. Those who purchase tickets will be given a big reveal about the event in the week leading up to it.

Tickets for the Secret Event cost £9 (plus booking fee). Tickets for The Whisky Stramash on 23rd and 24th May cost £28.60 (inc £2.60 booking fee) but they're selling out fast so you best be quick if you want to go along. Visit The Whisky Stramash website for more details. 

Bruichladdich Masterclass – 28th May

Settle down in the stunning surroundings of the Balmoral Hotel’s magnificent whisky bar Scotch – adorned with 400 varieties of Scotch Whisky. This Masterclass will give you a great introduction the history and heritage behind the Hebridean single malt whisky, Bruichladdich – suitable for beginners and connoisseurs.
