Edinburgh International Magic Festival - 26th June to 4th July
Prepare to be mystified and amazed at the Magic Festival Opening Gala on Friday 26th June at Summerhall. The evening will full of surprise and delight providing a fantastic taster of what’s to come during the run of the Festival. The full festival programme opens on Saturday 27thJuly so take a look at the full programme to find out what wonderment you have to choose from. If you’re looking for something suitable for the kids we recommend the Magic Quest on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th June where you can take part in a family adventure to solve mysteries and fight dragons!
Edinburgh International Film Festival - Running until Sunday 28th June
This year’s festival is drawing to a close so with only a few days to go try to squeeze in a film or two over the weekend. If there’s a film that you’re gutted you missed then check out the Best of the Fest line-up on Sunday which gives you another chance to see some of the Festival’s most popular films, including powerful Amy Winehouse documentary Amy and Disney Pixar’s latest hit for the family Inside Out. The final film of the festival at the Closing Night Gala is Scottish drama Iona, a beautifully shot and moving story about a woman seeking refuge in her childhood home of Iona.
Edinburgh Farmers’ Market 15th Anniversary Party – Saturday 27th June
Join in the party as the Edinburgh Farmers’ Market celebrates its 15thAnniversary. To mark the occasion there’ll be face painting, live music and games, a vintage tractor, slow food tea party and competitions and giveaways, also including prizes to be won for the best dressed farmer or farm animal! You can also expect the usual great line-up of local producers and food vendors to fill your cupboards and your belly.
Armed Forces Day Parade – Saturday 27th June
A fantastic display of support for the men and women in the Armed Forces Community, Edinburgh’s Armed Forces Day Parade will begin on Johnston Terrace at 11.30 am on Saturday 27th June and marches via Candlemakers Row to the Grassmarket. When the Parade is over the celebrations continue in the Grassmarket with live music, stalls and entertainment.
Edinburgh Canal Festival and Raft Race – Saturday 27th June
Head along to the Edinburgh Union Canal on Saturday 27th June for a packed programme of races and entertainment at the Edinburgh Canal Festival and Raft Race. This popular community event hosts loads activities off the water as well so there’s plenty see and do if you‘d rather stand on the side lines, including kids’ fun, live music and street food. The race itself is a fantastic spectacle with dozens of weird and wonderful homemade rafts taking part. Head along and cheer them on!
Our Dynamic Earth Dome Fest – 27th and 28th June
Be blown away with a great line-up of short films showcasing our planet and solar system at Our Dynamic Earth’s Dome Fest this weekend. Showing in their spectacular 360° ShowDome, the films include We are Aliens narrated by Rupert Grint and Astronaut narrated by Ewan McGregor. Specially for Dome Fest you’ll be able to see two of the five films available with your Our Dynamic Earth Ticket. There will also be a space craft station and ever visitor will receive a free solar system poster.
The Fit Festival – 27th and 28th June
Health and fitness fans jog over to the Assembly Rooms for Fit Festival on 27th and 28th June. Whether you’re looking for tips on how to improve your running technique or just want to educate yourself on living a healthier lifestyle, there will be plenty of experts and coaches to help you out plus taster and demos throughout the weekend.
Stockbridge Duck Race – Sunday 28th June

Back for its 26th year the Stockbridge Duck Race will take place at Deanhaugh Street at 3pm on Sunday 28th June. Look out for the hundreds of yellow ducks being released for the race, raising money for local charities Life Care and St Columba’s Hospice. Prizes will be given to the owners of the first lucky ducks that cross the line. Post-race head along to The Antiquary Bar for the Après Duck Party and Kids’ Disco.
