You don't get much more festive than a Christmas Market, and in Edinburgh we have lots of them! From large European marketplaces to intimate street food gatherings, our city has lots of interesting and unique markets where you can find that perfect present and get in the festive mood with a piping hot mug of mulled wine.

European Christmas Market

For the past 20 years in the heart of Edinburgh, the popular European Christmas Market has been held in its picturesque setting below the Mound. It's back for 2016, and will stretch all the way along East Princes Street Gardens, from opposite Waverley Station, past the Scott Monument over to the National Gallery of Scotland. 

The traditional and romantic Christmas Market in the heart of the city of Edinburgh offers a unique shopping experience for every visitor with its fair of crafters, artists, gift shops and gastronomic surprises. Here you will also find the Star Flyer and the popular Christmas Wheel. 

The Scottish Market

The Scottish Market is a winter showcase of some of the best craft, food and drink that Scotland has to offer. The treats available include locally produced sausages, fresh seafood, unique chocolate, delightful cupcakes, gin, Scottish brewed craft beer, Scottish crafted jewellery and woodwork, the best Scottish accessories on offer and much more.

In the new location of West George Street for 2016, the Scottish Market is a stone's throw away from this year's magical Street of Light, which will light up the New Town every day until Christmas Eve. 

Hopetoun Christmas Shopping Fair

Shop until your heart is content at Hopetoun House's annual Christmas Shopping Fair. Browse over 60 stands offering a wide range of high quality and unusual gifts for Christmas, and soak in the wonderful atmosphere provided by the Christmas entertainment.

Enjoy a pleasant and relaxing day of Christmas shopping, with lots of original gifts to choose from in a beautiful setting. 

Summerhall Christmas Market

Summerhall's annual sell out Christmas Market is back for 2016, with even more stalls than ever before to give you a huge range of gifts and treats for friends and family. It wouldn’t be the Summerhall Christmas Market without welcoming back Summerhall Singers to entertain the crowds with festive carols - this is one seasonal event that's not to be missed.

The formula behind Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair is a simple one; exasperated with rising high street prices and vintage costing an arm and a leg, Judy set out to create a fair that was equally affordable as it was eclectic.

Handpicked traders from the four corners of the UK comprise a vibrant vintage marketplace with over sixty years of one-off discounts and rails packed with affordable vintage stock from the 1920s onwards to knock your socks off.

Get the perfect gift for the foodie in your life at Edinburgh Farmers Market, which takes place under the spectacular backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. Now in its 16th year, Edinburgh Farmers Market has a huge variety of fresh local produce from over 50 specialist producers. Plus, the majority of stallholders grow or rear what they sell.

There will be lots of festive treats in store every Saturday in December running up to christmas, including carol singing, christmas trees and wreaths. There will also be special festive hampers on sale, making it the perfect place to stock up on gifts for your foodie friends. 

Stockbridge Market

Stock up on unique gifts at the famous Stockbridge Market, on every Sunday. With a huge range of stalls that changes every week, you can browse a unique selection of handmade jewellery, delicious preserves, gourmet coffee and much, much more. Once you're done, wander further into Stockbridge to discover even more great gift ideas in one of the area's many brilliant independent shops.

Every Saturday the Grassmarket becomes a flurry of excitement when the weekly market comes to the central thoroughfare. Each week there’s an abundance of locally grown, fresh produce including organic vegetables, artisan breads, fresh fish and meat. Over 20 stall holders offer high quality, sustainably sourced produce as well as just-cooked street food, sweet treats and seasonal crafts and gifts from local makers.

The Royal Mile Market

Located in the Tron Kirk on the Royal Mile, the Royal Mile Market is the only 7-day indoor market in Edinburgh. Leith Market

This bustling farmers market right beside the water turns Leith into a foodie haven every Saturday. Come on down and sample the wares of a wide range of independent traders, specialising in a wide range of produce including mouthwatering meat and fish, dairy and sweet treats. You're bound to work up an appetite after all that Christmas shopping, so be sure to stop by one of the street food stalls and enjoy some freshly prepared sustenance to fuel you for the all the festive fun ahead.
