Shop like a local in Edinburgh this Christmas

04 December 2015

Going Christmas shopping today? Before you rush to your traditional high street brands, why not take a trip around the many wonderful independent hubs that we have across Edinburgh and choose a gift for your loved ones whilst helping local buisnesses? Rebecca Christensen from Love From Indie Street shares her favourite Christmas shopping hotspots in the city:

Start your morning in Roseburn at House of Hound and pick up everything youneed for dog lovers. This purveyor of doggy goods offers the finest range of pooch paraphernalia in Edinburgh, from toys and bedding to food, treats, collars, and jackets. Their stock is hand-picked and internationally sourced, and a gift form here is sure to make anyone proud of their pup.

Hop on the bus in to town or enjoy a lovely winter’s morning walk through the West End on to William Street. Here you will find a fantastic array of independent stores. This is one of my favourite areas in the city, the cobbled streets and variety of stores makes this a perfect destination to pick up lots of unique Christmas presents.

House Of Hound Square

If you have a Mary Berry wannabe to buy for your next port of call should be Creative Cookware on Rose Street. The first time I discovered this store I was blown away by the range of items that Lin and her team manage to source and stock. From gorgeous pots and pans to cake decorating tools, you will find everything you need for the resident cook or baker in the house. Talking of food, surely it’s time to stop off for some refuelling and where better than the super friendly and cosy Bon Papillon on Howe Street. Home to the best scones in town, you will be ready and raring to get back to your shopping in no time.

Take your time wandering down the hill past the stunning St Stephen’s Church and call in to the plentiful independent and unique stores along St Stephens Street and down in to Stockbridge. I personally don’t think any day of gift shopping is complete without a visit to Daisy Cheynes on Raeburn Place. Their window is always a pleasure to behold and in store you can go wild on all sorts of home, beauty and other pretty gifts.

After all of this shopping, why not call in to The Raeburn Hotel for a spot of festive cheer in this beautiful building? They really know how to do Christmas and their decorations are completely stunning.

Last but by no means least I would cut through the Botanics and call in to Life Story. This stylish and creative store is located on Broughton Street and is a homewares, furniture and lifestyle shop. The lovely owner Susan is passionate about stocking a host of designers from all over the world with good design at the forefront.
