2017 marks the 200th anniversary of the disbanding of the Town Guard of Edinburgh - the city's early police. New research has revealed that the Guard are closely linked to a century of rebellion and violence which tore through Edinburgh from 1688-1817.

Uncover the story of the Guard at the Museum of Edinburgh this summer, through rediscovered objects, rare weapons and documents that have never been seen before. Take a look at the city's rare collection of early muskets, thought to be the largest in the world, alongside axes, drums and halberds used by the Town Guard. 

The exhibition is free to enter and is open until 30th October 2017.
