Behind the Scenes at a Fashion Shoot for Edinburgh Fashion Week

27 February 2015

Edinburgh based Personal Shopper & Fashion Blogger, Laura Russell from Satisfashion is joining us at the launch weekend of Edinburgh Fashion Week, leading some fantastic fashion tutorials on Saturday 7th March. Ahead of the event Laura will be giving you a sneak peek of some of this season’s biggest trends with her Fashion Fix blogs for This is Edinburgh.

This week Laura's Fashion Fix goes behind the scenes of a Edinburgh Fashion Week shoot for the Daily Record and gives you a Satisfashionable guide to some of the latest Women's trends for SS15.

Laura: This week has been rather exciting building up to Edinburgh Fashion Week (EFW). At the start of the week I was asked to style a photo on behalf of EFW for the Daily Record, featuring affordable looks from a range of Edinburgh stores covering the latest trends.

Setting up for a shoot involves a lot of shopping and a great excuse to hit the shops of Edinburgh.  In the stores currently we are still in this tran-seasonal Spring to Summer phase and the weather is suggesting we wrap up warm so these outfits are nodding at how we could start to embrace the new trends of the season.

Here are a few of the trends I picked to represent Edinburgh Fashion Week in the Daily Record shoot.

Florals are once again in full bloom (surprise, surprise). Embrace all kinds of florals from the dainty to the bold darling buds and don't be scared to clash up or wear head to toe. A bold pair of floral trousers will stand you in good fashion cred worn simply with a block colour jumper whilst still cold and then worn with a matching or clashing top when it warms up.

Florals are key on accessories this season and if wearing a floral scares you, add it in the form of a handbag, clutch bag or heel to show you know your blooming stuff this season. You'll find great blooms at Oasis at House of Fraser, Swish Boutique and Next.

Stripe it up this season Ladies. Stripes are everywhere - on dresses, trousers, blazers and tops, even on bags and shoes and belts. Get straight to the point and double up your stripes. Dare you clash with horizontal or vertical and thick or thin stripes? Don’t be afraid to get your stripes on - check it out at River Island, Kakao by K, Gap.

It’s all about the Denim this season and we are not just talking jeans. Look at denim in a smarter way shown in work wear pieces and in tonally blue outfitting nodding to the Denim trend. In Jeans we have so many more options again with the return of the flare and the boyfriend and ripped is still going strong. Denim looks great in dresses and smart tailored pieces. Don't forget your little denim jacket adding the touch of Burberry to your look. Denim can be found at Gap, ALC and John Lewis.

Get ready for a throwback to the 70s and pull out the crochet, flares, fringing and suede and embrace the key era of the season. Don't just play at it though, try floaty boho dresses, flared trousers, clashing florals, floppy hats and platforms. If it was acceptable in the 70s then its acceptable today. Shops to try are Next, Just G, Biba at Jenners.

As I say to all my clients - you have to do the trends your own way, so embrace what feels right and don't just do a trend just because, having your own style and personal take on trends is far cooler.
