There's nothing quite like New Year - or Hogmanay as it’s known in Scotland - and Edinburgh does Hogmanay better than most with a 3-day festival to celebrate the changing of the year.

With a variety of different events taking place, take a look at our suggestions to welcome in 2023 in style in Scotland’s capital city…

Toe-tapping jigs and moving reels, mixed with a scattering of well-known songs will lift your spirits and give you a spring in your step as The Scottish Fiddle Orchestra - Hogmanay Celebration make a welcome return to the Usher Hall.

Festival of Ceilidhs: Countdown to Hogmanay with The Alan Crookston Ceilidh Band

The lively 3-piece Alan Crookston Ceilidh Band take to the stage at Roxy Theatre for an evening of joyful and traditional Scottish ceilidh music.

Under 18’s are welcome until 11pm.

Hogmanay House

Part of the acclaimed MagicFest’s programme, Hogmanay House explores the origins of Hogmanay with live music, storytelling, comedy, as well as spot of magic!

Taking place at Church Hill Theatre, this exciting event takes place at selected time from 30 – 31 December.

Night Afore Disco Party

Disco divas get ready! Grab your dancing shoes and be prepared to dance the night away as pop-princess Sophie Ellis-Bextor and special guests Altered Images entertain with a night of dancefloor classics at the Night Afore Disco Party

Edinburgh's Ross Bandstand in West Princes Street Gardens will be alive with sparkling pop hits at this all-new family event.

Festival of Ceilidhs: Hogmanay with The Haggis Chasers Ceilidh Band

The fabulously-named Haggis Chasers Ceilidh Band are your hosts for an evening of fun and energetic traditional ceilidh celebrations, taking place at Edinburgh’s Roxy Theatre.

Under 18’s are welcome until 11pm.

Hogmanay 2022 at Summerhall 

Edinburgh’s multi-purpose venue Summerhall will be welcoming in the bells and 2023 with Hogmanay 2022 - an exciting night of live music.

Take to the dance floor and dance into the New Year with The Soul Foundation and DJ’s playing high-octane hits. Keep an eye on their social pages for more artists to be announced.

Concert in the Gardens

After a gap of 2 years, the much-celebrated Concert in the Gardens returns to Edinburgh’s West Princes Street Gardens.

Headlined by pop sensation Pet Shop Boys, concert goers will be entertained by a score of top hits against the stunning backdrop of Edinburgh Castle.

Tickets for the concert include access to the Edinburgh's Hogmanay Street Party.

Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party

Edinburgh’s world-famous Hogmanay Street Party is the place to be at Hogmanay.

There are few events more photogenic than the city’s historic skyline majestically lit up with fireworks as the bells strike midnight.

30,000 revellers from around the world will dance their way into 2023 with live DJ soundtracks, giant screens, funfair attractions and a delicious selection of street food & drink. New for this year, party goers will be issued with LED Wristbands, lighting up the party.

Get your glad rags on for Edinburgh's famous Hogmanay Snow Ball Ceilidh which returns to the city this year.

Taking place in the Assembly Rooms, where both of this magnificent venue’s stunning ballrooms will be festooned with glitz and glamour, dance all the way into 2023 as you’re entertained by top ceilidh bands - one traditional and one contemporary.

Hogmanay aboard The Royal Yacht Britannia

For the first time, guests will experience Hogmanay aboard The Royal Yacht Britannia, the former floating palace of HM Queen Elizabeth II.

A glass of champagne in hand, tour the State Apartments with Britannia's knowledgeable guides as they tell fascinating stories of life on board. Then take your place in the State Dining Room where you’ll be treated to an exquisite four-course dinner while being entertained by a string duo. For a spectacular finish, step out on to the deck to see a pipe band perform the Beating Retreat, before dancing into a New Year on the Royal Deck.

The Forth Floor Restaurant is offering a bespoke Champagne reception, followed by a four course dinner with optional paired wines. Diners will then be treated to a first-class view of the world-renowned fireworks display.

SCO: Viennese New Year

Conducted by celebrated Joseph Swensen, former SCO Principal Conductor and joined by renowned  German violinist, Kolja Blacher, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra will be entertaining guests with a melody of musical delights in SCO: Viennese New Year 

The wonderful acoustics of the Usher Hall will be resounding with the likes of The elegant Blue Danube and the majestic Radetzky March.

Final Fling

An all-Scottish line-up takes to the stage at West Princes Street Gardens to close Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations in style.

Headlined by Tide Lines and joined by special guests Elephant Sessions and Edinburgh’s own Hamish Hawk, this outdoor concert is suitable for ages 9 years and over.
