Edinburgh’s ‘Street of Light’ – Make an evening of it with some top picks
30 November 2015
There’s a new Christmas show in town! The Virgin Money Street of Light kicks off on 30 November and this breathtaking new event will light up Edinburgh’s Old Town right up until Christmas Eve. An architectural installation comprising 26 arches and 60,000 lights, it will run along the Royal Mile, from City Chambers to the Tron Kirk, creating a stunning canopy of light which will really set the city alight. Running twice each evening, the experience involves both music and songs from a variety of Edinburgh choirs, creating a synchronised sound and light show.
If you are looking to make a real evening of your visit to Street of Light, here are a few ideas of what to do before or after.
Be enlightened by whisky at The Scotch Whisky Experience
The Scotch Whisky Experience’s new ‘Whisky Enlightenment’ tour is perfectly timed to coincide with the Street of Light’s twice daily performances, so you can either begin or end your visit to Street of Light with an illuminating whisky experience. As a major sponsor of the Street of Light, the Whisky Experience also holds a reserve of tickets for its ‘Enlightenment’ visitors – ideal if your chosen night is fully allocated.
Visitors will warm up with a delicious winter toddy on arrival, before taking a light-hearted look at the world of Scotch Whisky, where you can sample a specially selected single malt matched with chocolate. You can then enjoy a relaxed viewing of all 3,384 bottles in the World’s Largest Collection of Scotch Whisky.
The Whisky Enlightenment tour lasts for one hour and runs Monday to Saturday at 7:15 p.m. and Sunday at 6:15 p.m. The price is £15.00 and the tour is for adults only.

There’s also plenty of room on the ice for beginners – children and adults alike – and skates are available to hire from children’s size 9 right up to adult’s size 13.
