Edinburgh Fashion Week: Men's Spring/Summer15 Trends

20 February 2015

Edinburgh based Personal Shopper & Fashion Blogger, Laura Russell from Satisfashion is joining us at the launch weekend of Edinburgh Fashion Week, leading some fantastic fashion tutorial sessions on Saturday 7th March. Ahead of the event Laura will be giving you a sneak peek of some of this season’s biggest trends with her Fashion Fix blogs for This is Edinburgh.

Laura’s first blog is all about Men’s Spring/Summer 2015 trends, take a look for some handy tips to get you through this season in great style.

Laura: Edinburgh Fashion Week is on the horizon and being a Personal Shopper in Edinburgh, I’m getting really excited about all the new SS15 clothing that’s starting to hit shops.

Whether you prefer to stand out or blend in, this season’s trends for gents are really wearable for tastes so get some inspiration for your Spring/Summer wardrobe with a Satisfashionable guide to my favourite SS15 Menswear trends.

LR Blog Mens Stripes 736

Gucci and Jonathan Saunders striped up the catwalks to tell you gents to get your stripes on for the season ahead.  This Spring/Summer stripes are everywhere and can be worked into smart occasions with tailored pieces such as smart blazers, trousers and shirts, as well as striping it up for casual wear with jumpers and t-shirts - it’s so easy to take a stripe from work to play.  When buying striped pieces do consider that all stripes do different things to your shape, horizontal ones make you look wider (great for someone wanting to look bulkier up top); while vertical stripes draw the eye downwards (fab if you are slightly shorter and would like a bit of ‘optical height illusion’).

Edinburgh stores that great to try stripes in are French Connection, Austin Reid, Tommy Hilfiger.

LR Blog Mens Denim 736

Denim is always a classic for gents but this season Tom Ford, Dior and Prada showed us denim is never going away and is a big trend for Spring/Summer2015. The majority of us will probably already own jeans, some may have a denim jacket so you’re part way there as this season hints at triple demining - for most that’s a whole lot of denim when some had just accepted double denim!

Denim is a great way to mix high street, high end and vintage in different colours and washes. You can keep it casual with ripped denims or smart and refined with solid indigo washes.

Edinburgh stores which are good for Men’s denim are Harvey Nichols, Gap, Armstrong’s, and River Island.

LR Blog Mens Floral 736

The floral trend has been blossoming over the last couple of years but this season why don’t you gents just go for it! Givenchy showed us that floral is blooming right now. To add floral into your wardrobe I think the most wearable way to work it would be in a key focal shirt, t-shirt or polo worn smart with a suit or casually with jeans or chinos. If that’s a bit too bold but you fancy trying the trend then hint at it with tops that have floral trims or adding a floral tie to your suit. If you are brave and confident enough try a floral trouser teamed with a neutral shirt to look blooming lovely this season.

When shopping for florals in Edinburgh try Ted Baker at HOF/Jenners and Hawes & Curtis.

LR Blog Mens Red 736

Red is the bold colour for SS15, kicked off by D&G’s matador themed collection ranging in a variety of tones from blood to brick. It can be a trickier colour for those with fairer skin tones but red is the statement colour of the season and great for both casual and smart looks. Less-is-more with red so add just one red piece per outfit. A great way to make red work for a smart-casual look would be with a red blazer or red trousers complimented by neutral tones.

Visit Reiss and John Lewis for Red pieces at Edinburgh stores.

Gents, I hope this has given you some pointers to update your Spring/Summer15 wardrobe in Edinburgh. I will be giving a SS15 Men’s trends presentation at the Edinburgh Fashion Week launch weekend on Saturday 7th March so please come and check it out for different ways to wear the trends of the season. Have a Satisfashonable season ahead,
