Stockbridge is one of our favourite areas to wander around at the weekend and it’s perfect for picking up some great gifts in time for father’s day this year. Head to I J Mellis on Baker’s Street to peruse the amazing artisan cheeses. Their vast experience in cheese making and focus on creating small batches of high quality product ensure you will only be getting the best (and smelliest) farmhouse blue cheese for your dad. If you happen to be in the area on the Sunday, head along to the weekly food and crafts market where you will be sure to find some great local preserves, jellies and jams - the ultimate pairing for a great cheese!

Curiouser And Curiouser

For dad’s with a passion for design or the budding art collectors, head to Broughton Street and its abundance of gift shops filled with curios and beautiful art pieces. We love Curiouser & Curiouser for its collection of contemporary art from modern artists which would look at great in any home - maybe a 50 Shades of Scotland print by Emily Mackenzie or perhaps a vibrant Scottish landscape by Scott Naismith? For fathers with an adventurous spirit or a magpie for interesting objects, take a hunt around the antique stores of Dundas Street. You never know what hidden treasures are waiting to be uncovered amongst the knick-knacks of these fascinating stores - we love Unicorn Antiques for its jaw-dropping collection of stuff!

For those who enjoy a tipple or two there can surely be no better gift than a bottle of the ‘water of life’? The Scottish national drink may not be for everyone but sourcing a good bottle of single malt for any keen whisky drinkers would no doubt be much appreciated. We love Whiski Rooms, not just for their bar & restaurant, but for their adjoining bottle shop which stocks over 500 types of whisky including limited editions and rare single malts. Whether your dad is a seasoned pro, or a newbie to the golden drink, the knowledgeable staff can help you find the perfect gift.

If your beloved Daddy is more the dapper gent then we would highly recommend checking out Walker & Slater on the iconic Victoria Street. Walker & Slater are experts in bespoke suiting and contemporary Scottish tweed, but also offer a huge range of stylish accessories including leather goods, bow ties, hats and cufflinks, all of which would be a popular choice for the more fashionable father.

Drinkmonger Fathers Day

The south side of the city can offer plenty of gift inspiration for even the most fickle of fathers. Play it safe with a visit to Drinkmonger on Bruntsfield place to find a selection of the finest wines on offer in the city. You can be sure to find a full bodied red that will quickly become your dad’s favourite bottle in the cabinet here, and if wines not his thing, the store stocks a whole host of interesting tipples and libations for any taste. If not, head along to The Edinburgh Bookshop, recently awarded the ‘Best Scottish Independent Bookshop 2018’, and lose yourself amongst the floor to ceiling shelves of this magical store. Any interest or passion can be found in here so whether your dad is a keen fisherman or a history buff there will be bookish gifts aplenty here.

Music buffs are best served by heading down to Leith to explore the eclectic treasure trove that is Elvis Shakespeare's. Open since May 2005, this Edinburgh institution is a marvel of a second-hand book and record shop. With prices ranging anywhere from 50p to £200 and featuring a whole range of cross-genre literature, rare vinyls and music memorabilia, hunting through Elvis Shakespeare’s will surely be rewarded with a great find for your aficionado dad.

For the foodie of the family, Leith offers another gem. The Michelin-starred The Kitchin, is a great choice both for a father’s day meal or as a gift for a future celebratory meal. Opened in 2006, the restaurant gained its star just a year later and offers the best British seasonal cuisine with a focus on the amazing food readily on hand from ‘Scotland’s larder’. We guarantee this one will put a smile on your dad’s face as well as satisfy his stomach!
