Half term adventures in Edinburgh this autumn

Half term this year is a little different, but there are still plenty of adventures to be found. Remember to book ahead, and make sure you’re following the latest guidance on group sizes, masks, handwashing and social distancing.
Where’s Wally Spooky Museum Search, at the National Museum of Scotland

In partnership with Kids in Museums and Walkers Books, the National Museum of Scotland has a spooky search activity this Halloween. Pick up an activity sheet and search the collections for that famous stripey sweatshirt.
Find Penguins and Pancakes at Edinburgh Zoo

The Zoo are offering special pancake breakfasts this half term for the whole family. You’ll get an exclusive encounter with the penguins in your own family ‘bubble’, and then you can head inside for breakfast and crafts before exploring the rest of the zoo.
Take a tour of chocolate at the Chocolatarium

Learn about how cacao grows, how chocolate is made, and experience the tasting room. The Chocolatarium offer a 90 minute tour for anyone aged 6 and over, just off the Royal Mile.
You even get to create your own custom chocolate bar with as many toppings as you like!
Explore the Halloween Trail at the Botanics

You can book a free slot to wander the Botanics yourself this half-term, but why not add a little magic. Join Caley the Garden Witch and Mi-agh the cat to find all the materials you need to create a scarecrow to protect the plants!
Visit the Edinburgh Dungeon, Home of Halloween

For screaming scares and jumps round every corner, there’s no better place than the Edinburgh Dungeon. For Halloween this year, they’ve brought back their Séance show, which tells the tale of one of Edinburgh’s creepiest ghost stories. A tour of the Dungeons includes live actors, immersive theatrical sets, spectacular effects and thrilling rides.
Blood and Guts with the Surgeons’ Hall Museum

Your guide will share some unique stories of chloroform tea parties and pioneering women, along with all the gory details of Britain’s first famous serial killers, Burke and Hare.
Bring down the casino and rob the safe with the Big Escape

If you’re looking for something to do outdoors with older kids, why not try this virtual escape game. Join Dan Rooney and his Crew of hackers and safe crackers on a city adventure. You can sign up to play any time through an app on your phone, and spend a few hours solving puzzles and cracking codes with your whole family.
