You don't get much more festive than a Christmas Market, and in Edinburgh we have lots of them! From large European marketplaces to intimate street food gatherings, our city has lots of interesting and unique markets where you can find that perfect present and get in the festive mood with a piping hot mug of mulled wine.

European Christmas Market

For the past 20 years in the heart of Edinburgh, the popular European Christmas Market has been held in its picturesque setting below the Mound. It's back for 2018, and will stretch all the way along East Princes Street Gardens, from opposite Waverley Station, past the Scott Monument over to the National Gallery of Scotland. 

The traditional and romantic Christmas Market in the heart of the city of Edinburgh offers a unique shopping experience for every visitor with its fair of crafters, artists, gift shops and gastronomic surprises. Here you will also find the Star Flyer and the popular Christmas Wheel. 

Summerhall Christmas Market

Summerhall's annual sell out Christmas Market is back for 2018, with even more stalls than ever before to give you a huge range of gifts and treats for friends and family. This year's market will be packed full of local businesses selling unique gift ideas, while food venors serve up delicious food and drink in the Courtyard. 

Alongside the stallholders there will be music, activities and workshops to get you in the festive mood. And of course, the Summerhall Singers will be back to perform carols from 11.30 - 12.30 and 1.30 - 2.30.

Edinburgh Farmers' Market

Get the perfect gift for the foodie in your life at Edinburgh Farmers Market, which takes place under the spectacular backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. Now in its 18th year, Edinburgh Farmers Market has a huge variety of fresh local produce from over 50 specialist producers. Plus, the majority of stallholders grow or rear what they sell.

There will be lots of festive treats in store every Saturday in December running up to christmas, including carol singing, christmas trees and wreaths. There will also be special festive hampers on sale, making it the perfect place to stock up on gifts for your foodie friends. 

Stockbridge Market

Stock up on unique gifts at the famous Stockbridge Market, on every Sunday. With a huge range of stalls that changes every week, you can browse a unique selection of handmade jewellery, delicious preserves, gourmet coffee and much, much more. Once you're done, wander further into Stockbridge to discover even more great gift ideas in one of the area's many brilliant independent shops.

Every Saturday the Grassmarket becomes a flurry of excitement when the weekly market comes to the central thoroughfare. Each week there’s an abundance of locally grown, fresh produce including organic vegetables, artisan breads, fresh fish and meat. Over 20 stall holders offer high quality, sustainably sourced produce as well as just-cooked street food, sweet treats and seasonal crafts and gifts from local makers.

Leith Market

This bustling farmers market right beside the water turns Leith into a foodie haven every Saturday. Come on down and sample the wares of a wide range of independent traders, specialising in a wide range of produce including mouthwatering meat and fish, dairy and sweet treats. You're bound to work up an appetite after all that Christmas shopping, so be sure to stop by one of the street food stalls and enjoy some freshly prepared sustenance to fuel you for the all the festive fun ahead.

Old Tolbooth Christmas Market

Celebrate the official opening of the Old Tolbooth Market with lots of festive fun on Friday 7th December. Enjoy world street food, music and arts and crafts. Plus there are lots of great activities in the morning by Kiss the Fish.

This December, Hendersons Shop and Deli will be packed with vegan, vegetarian and earth-friendly gift ideas. You can also enjoy a mug of free mulled wine while you browse. 

Christmas Open Day and Craft Fair

Head to Custom House in Leith for a fabulous Christmas craft fair, with exhibitions, live music from the Edinburgh Gay Men's Chorus, comminity stalls, open studios and festive food and drink. Explore festive exhibitions by Can Do Highland Coo, Working Title and Life Story. 

GLOW Christmas Design Fair

Shop local this Christmas and pop into the GLOW Christmas Design Fair at Dovecot Studios. Dedicated entirely to Scottish makers and designers, browse over 20 stalls boasting unique Christmas gift ideas that have been sourced locally. Entry is £1 on the door.
