Top ways to pamper yourself in Edinburgh

In need of a little me-time? This week we welcome Lynne from Scottish health, fitness and travel blog Borders and Burpees to talk about her favourite places to get pampered in the city...
How do you relax? For some it might be a book, a film or a walk, but for me it has to be a pamper day - and I have tried a fair few! In Edinburgh, the pampering possibilities are endless: whether you’ve got 15 minutes or three days; a few quid or a small fortune; a need for some alone time or a group gathering with your pals; there will be an option for you. Here are some of my top picks:
The Quickie - Manicure
A manicure is one of the fastest ways to get that pampered feeling. Indulge in a super posh manicure in Harvey Nichols’ Nails Inc Nail Bar. If you’ve got time to spare, treat yourself to a gel mani-pedi, which takes over an hour and a half, but lasts 3 weeks – ideal for holidays. Short on time? For a relaxing quick fix opt for their express mani which takes just 15 minutes. Plenty of time to do that on your lunch break and squeeze in some shopping too!

The Quirky - Fish Pedicure
Fish pedicures were all the rage a couple of years ago, but did you ever actually try it? I have, and it is an odd experience! You stick your feet in an actual fish tank, full of little Garra Rufa fish, and they nibble away at your hard skin. It’s not just a great way to pamper yourself – it’s also an exercise in self-control! It really tickles, but if it’s too much, you need to lift your feet out the tank slowly so as not to injure the fish. Try Snappy Soles in Ocean Terminal, and see if you can handle it.

The Zen - Isolation Pod
This one is not for the claustrophobic! The Edinburgh Floatarium offer an hour, 1½ or 2 hour experience in a flotation pod. The pods are lightless and soundproof, and filled with salt water which allows you to float. This provides total sensory deprivation (or, as close as you can get) and allows you to achieve a monk-like state of meditation, It’s claimed to be as effective as 6 hours of “physical and mental rest”, so definitely worth a try!

The Glam – Makeover & Photoshoot
What about some photographic evidence of your pamper day? At The Makeover Experience, expert stylists will consult with you over a glass of bubbly before transforming you into the best version of yourself with professional makeup and hair styling. You then have your very own photographer to capture the transformation and make you feel like a star. If that sounds a bit daunting, check out their Mother & Daughter days and take your mum to hold your hand!

The Traditional - Spa Day
I couldn’t have a list of pampering treats without a good old fashioned spa day! Macdonald Holyrood Hotel is in the heart of Edinburgh. You can pop in for a facial or massage, but the real joy is in taking a full day (or two, or three – the perks of choosing a spa hotel!) to enjoy the facilities. They have a package to suit everyone, with a range of treatments, lunch options, and even the choice of some fizz! The hotel has full spa facilities, including a 14m pool, for you to enjoy between treatments. Don’t forget your magazine!
