Top wedding events in Edinburgh this autumn
22 September 2016
Wedding Fair season is upon us, and there is lots of exciting events coming up in Edinburgh to help you plan your perfect day. We've asked Lynne from Borders and Burpees to share with us her top events to inspire brides-to-be, from the big unmissable wedding fairs to wee markets that are a little off the beaten track...
It seems I’m firing through my twenties like it’s going out of fashion. And as the numbers go up, so do the number of weddings I attend each year. So far, my wedding responsibilities have included relieving the bride and groom of free champagne, and ensuring I don’t wear the same outfit with the same crowd twice.
But now, it’s my turn to do the planning. I’ll get to attend all the events, shop for dresses, maybe even taste a cake or two. Yes. Someone finally asked me the question every girl dreams of...
“Will you be my Maid of Honour”?
Okay, so it’s not a wedding proposal (yet). But I have found myself no less engrossed in the wedding madness. My dear, loved-up friend has tasked me with finding all the best wedding events in Edinburgh. We’re looking for the dress, the venue, the cake, the decorations, and any freebies we can bag along the way. Did you know that lots of bridal shops give you free fizzy wine when you’re dress shopping? Excellent!
But selfish I am not. So, for the greater good, here is a run-down of wedding events coming up in the capital city.
Village Hotel Club Edinburgh Wedding Fair
25th September 2016, 11am
Get in quick for this one! Admission is free, and so is the glass of bubbly and canapes (hooray for freebies). The Village Hotel Club Edinburgh are opening their doors to show off their wedding facilities. They’ve also invited along some of their partner suppliers, and there is a Bridal Fashion Show in the afternoon. And did I mention the free bubbly? Click here for tickets.
Signet Library Open Evening
30th September 2016, 6pm-8pm
If you’re a bookworm, you’ll love this. You can have your wedding in a library! The Signet Library Open Evening will give you a taste of what they can offer on your special day. It’s free, and no booking is required. Their wedding designers will be in attendance to help you envisage your ideal wedding. There will also be bubbly and canapes, because of course there will.
A Spoonful of Vintage
1st October 2016, 10.30am-4.30pm
This isn’t actually a wedding event – but who said everything at your wedding has to be bought from a wedding shop? This vintage fair might be where you find your something old, if you subscribe to the tradition. Regardless, with vintage fashion, home wear, jewellery and accessories, you might find a special something here to make your wedding unique.
Luxury Scottish Wedding Show
2nd October 2016, 12pm-4pm
It wouldn’t be a wedding post without the Luxury Scottish Wedding Show! Taking place at Hopetoun House, just outside of Edinburgh, this is another free event offering free glasses of fizz. As well as the usual offering of wedding wares, each couple will receive a free gift bag too. The event is free, but you do have to register - which you can do on their website.
Special Days Cakes Tasting Event
8th & 9th October 2016, 9am-6pm
More freebies! Most wedding cake suppliers will be able to arrange a tasting before you decide on a cake. But if you’re not ready for the hard sell of a private event, pop along to Special Day Cakes for their cake tasting event.
Corn Exchange Wedding Fair
5th & 6th November 2016
Dubbed the largest wedding event in east Scotland, the bi-annual Edinburgh Wedding Fair takes place at the Corn Exchange. This is the only paid event on our list, at £5-£7 per ticket – although one bride or groom per couple goes free if you purchase before 30th September. No information on freebies, but on account of the entrance fee, my hopes are high...!
Morningside makers market
First Saturday of every month, 11am-4pm
Another non-wedding event! Don’t forget that local markets can be a great place to pick up a bargain, or something unique for your wedding. The Morningside Makers Market is a monthly event, and features local suppliers and crafters.
Let me know at @BordersBurpees if you know about any other events coming up that are not to be missed!
