DogFest

Dogfest 2022 Dalkeith Country Park

The nation-wide dog-friendly festival, DogFest returns for 2 days of dog and family-friendly activities to the beautiful grounds of Dalkeith Country Park.

Featuring dog shows, displays, shopping, advise from experts and food & drink, it’s sure to get tails wagging!

DogFest runs from 03 – 04 September.

The Gin To My Tonic: The Ultimate Gin Festival

If a G&T is your drink of choice, be sure not to miss The Gin To My Tonic: The Ultimate Gin Festival. 

As well as over 250 craft spirits there will be no shortage of drinks and tastes to discover. With such a large variety of distilleries and artisan gin makers, this can only be described as gin heaven! Also expect well-stocked gin bars, cocktail making masterclasses and presentations from distilleries.

The Gin To My Tonic: The Ultimate Gin Festival takes place 10 – 11 September.

Door Open Days

An annual nation-wide festival which offers free access to over a thousand venues across Scotland, Door Open Days aims to ensure that the country’s spaces and stories, both new and old, are made accessible to everyone to discover and enjoy.

Whether you want to peek inside a 18th farm steading or visit a working observatory this is a great way to see inside many of the city’s fascinating buildings, many of which are not normally open to the public.

Edinburgh’s Door Open Days Programme runs from 24 – 25 September.

Edinburgh Cocktail Week

Cocktail Week Edinburgh Friends

Whether you like your cocktail shaken or stirred, Edinburgh Cocktail Week is overflowing with choice.

Cocktail Village will once again return to the city’s Festival Square with an array of pop-up bars, live music, DJ’s and tasty street food, while many of the city’s cocktail bars will be offering a tempting selection of drinks for all tastes.

Edinburgh Cocktail Week takes place from 07- 16 October.

The Scottish International Storytelling Festival

Bringing together Scottish and international storytellers and musicians, The Scottish International Storytelling Festival features captivating performances, panel discussions and a lively programme of activities for all the family.

The theme for 2022’s festival is “Interpreting Scotland”, where storytellers young and old will gather to share tales from Scotland’s past, present and future. 

The Scottish International Storytelling Festival runs from 14 – 30 October.

KNITWEAR Chanel to Westwood

Celebrating the history of fashion through knitwear, Dovecot Studios present a major exhibition of inspirational 20th century fashion knitwear.

Exploring one of the world’s oldest textile techniques, KNITWEAR Chanel to Westwood charts the influence of the art movements Modernism, Pop, Punk and Deconstruction alongside new knitwear technologies and design innovation. Highlights include a 1920s Chanel jersey, vintage woollen swimwear, 1950s cocktail sweaters, 1960s crochet and 1990s Julien MacDonald.

All Hands on Deck

Dynamic Earth Exterior Summer Time View Over To Crags

This October, Dynamic Earth are inviting intrepid adventures to join them for All Hands on Deck. 

Build a boat strong enough to withstand Scotland’s waters or try your hand at navigating a Remote Operated Vehicle simulator as part of their family drop-in activities. Pop along on 22 Oct for the Marine Family Science Showcase Day and you’ll meet real life Marine Scientists and Researchers!

All Hands on Deck takes place at Dynamic Earth from 15 – 23 October.

Samhuinn Fire Festival

Beltane Samhuinn Fire Parade 2021 Dancers

Marking the transition from Summer to Winter, Samhuinn Fire Festival celebrates the arrival of the Celtic New Year with a dazzling mix of fire, drumming, acrobatics & theatre.

Telling the story of the overthrowing of Summer by Winter, with a dramatic stand-off between the Summer and Winter Kings, Samhuinn is a contemporary revival of the ancient Celtic celebration of the new year.

Samhuinn Fire Festival is held on 31 October. Check their website for details of this year’s programme.

Glean: Early 20th Century women filmmakers and photographers in Scotland

Museum And Galleries Glean Early 20Th Century Woman Filmakers

Taking place at Edinburgh City Art Centre, Glean: Early 20th Century women filmmakers and photographers in Scotland explores the fascinating work of 14 innovative female photographers and filmmakers working in Scotland during the early 20th century.

This is the first time their work has been shown together and this ground-breaking exhibition explores various aspects of their work, such as their source of inspiration and motivation in what was then a male-dominated environment.

Glean: Early 20th Century women filmmakers and photographers in Scotland runs from 12 November 2022 – 12 March 2023.
