Top Ways to Celebrate Whisky Month 2018
09 May 2018
Whisky Month 2018 is upon us, and with so many brilliant places to enjoy Scotland’s national drink in the capital, there’s no need to journey far and wide to celebrate. So where can you enjoy a dram, or three, in Edinburgh this May? Our friends at the Scotch Whisky Experience, who this year are celebrating their 30th anniversary of bringing Scotch whisky to the world, have compiled a list of top places to learn more about the fascinating drink.
The Scotch Whisky Experience
354 Castle Hill, EH1 2NE
Found at the top of the Royal Mile, this five star visitor attraction is Edinburgh’s whisky home, where every month is whisky month! With a stunning multi-sensory tour and tasting, The Scotch Whisky Experience fully immerses visitors in the water of life via a breath-taking 180° panoramic tour of Scotland’s five whisky-making regions, and a carefully crafted recreation of an 1870s Blender’s Room. The Scotch Whisky Experience is celebrating its 30th anniversary by curating a flight of ‘whiskies through the decades’, featuring whiskies from the 1980s through to the 2010s, including their very own limited edition 30 year old anniversary blended Scotch whisky.
Whisky tours start at: £15.50 for adults (concessions available)
World Whisky Day
No run-through of Whisky Month would be complete without a mention of World Whisky Day, which falls on the 19th May this year. Bars, eateries and attractions across the world get involved in this monumental celebration of the classic dram in all its forms, and Edinburgh is no exception. Get involved wherever you are by entering World Whisky Day’s charity raffle to win a spectacular prize, with proceeds going to the water charity Just a Drop, which funds clean water projects in developing countries. The raffle runs until 31st May.

9 Advocate’s Close, EH1 1ND
The 200-strong eclectic whisky shelf in the Devil’s Advocate bar is the stuff of dreams for any whisky fan. Situated in the historical and atmospheric Old Town of Edinburgh, The Devil’s Advocate is housed in an old Victorian pump house, hidden away in Advocates Close. Ask one of the award-winning barmen to whip you up one of their famous and ever-evolving whisky cocktails, before enjoying a lunch or dinner bursting with seasonal Scottish ingredients. The bar itself is a pretty amazing place to sit back and enjoy a dram, as much of the original character of the building has been maintained, with industrial-style lighting and exposed brick adding to the atmosphere.
Cocktails from their seasonal list start at £7.50
Now an annual institution for many stalwart fans of a dram, the Whisky Stramash is a two day event bringing together reps and distillers from whisky brands across Scotland, all keen for you to try a nip or two, chat to them about new releases, and get working on an early Christmas list. Combined with plenty of experiences, themed seminars exploring things like food matching and aromas, and more whisky knowledge than you can shake an empty glass at, and it’s an event not to be missed.
Tickets start at £27.50
