Get outdoors in West Lothian
West Lothian is home to lots of parks that are perfect for a family day out. Animal lovers should check in at Five Sisters Zoo at West Calder, where you can get up close and personal to over 180 species including lemurs, crocodiles and meerkats. With a café, picnic area and outdoor play facilities, this is a great day out for the whole family.
Kids will also love Almond Valley, a fantastic outdoor park with lots to see and do. Bounce the day away at the Nutty Bouncer, on a range of trampolines or the Bouncy Cow, or explore the park on one of their pedal go-karts. Younger visitors can enjoy Morag's Meadow, a special indoor play centre for 3-8 year olds, while animal lovers can meet the wide range of farm animals including goats, chickens and geese.
Royal palaces and stately homes

Explore the magnificent birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots at Linlithgow Palace, a beautiful retreat that was historically used by royals to break up the journey between Edinburgh and Stirling castles. Walk up the high towers and take in the spectaular views over the palace's grounds (the Peel) and Linlithgow Loch, a beautiful setting for wildlife.
Hopetoun House is a breathtaking 18th century house located near South Queensferry. Pop in for yourself and marvel at the magnificent interiors of the house - guided tours start at 2pm seven days a week and is included in the price of your ticket. You can also take a walk around the expansive grounds and try spotting some of the local wildlife, or treat yourself to afternoon tea in the Stables Tearoom.
