Traditional souvenirs and quirky independent finds.

Need some tartan? Old Town and the Royal Mile is defintely the place to be. But dig a little deeper and you'll discover one of the most curious and unique shopping scenes in the country.

The Royal Mile offers the perfect spot to find that special souvenir of Scotland - you'll find a range of items in your family tartan (and if you're not sure which it might be, they can sometimes help trace your family name to find it), including kilts. You also have the chance to pick up a bottle of whisky for that extra special something.

Specialist chocolatieres, fudge shops, coffee shops and even a Christmas Shop are located on the Royal mile. Head to the Grassmarket, where 90% of the businesses are independent, and you'll find a hub of vintage and unique clothing shops like Armstrong's, jewellers and even locally-made authentic medieval Scottish weaponry at the The Knight's Vault - which is also the only shop in the world licensed to produce official replicas of items such as swords and jewelery seen in the TV series Outlander.

High-end independent clothing boutiques like Godiva Boutique and whisky shops such as Jeffrey St Whiskies sit alongside little caves of wonder like the Aha Ha Ha Joke Shop and the Harry Potter-themed Boy Wizard. With so much on offer, the Old Town's shopping experience means the shopping experience will be as special as the gift or souvenir you take away with you.
