Following lockdown, Dovecot Studios re-open on 26 April with a new exhibition, Archie Brennan: Tapestry Goes Pop! Bringing together over 80 tapestries as well as archive material, this is a chance to delve into the world of a master of modern tapestry.

Pop artist, weaver, and former Mr Scotland, Edinburgh-native Archie Brennan changed the course of modern weaving and is considered one of the greatest unrecognised pop artists of the 20th century.

Brennan was Artistic Director of Dovecot Studios from 1962 – 1978 and during this time he oversaw some of the Studio’s most ambitious collaborations and large commissions. An innovator who inspired weavers all over the world from Papua New Guinea to Australia, he was interested in contemporary culture and was fascinated by celebrity imagery, depicting Muhammad Ali on numerous occasions.

This exhibition, the first major display of his work, runs from 26 April to 30 August 2021.
