Buried around AD 900 and containing over 100 objects, from silver, gold and jewelled treasures to rarely surviving textiles, including wool, linen and Scotland’s earliest examples of silk, the Galloway Hoard brings together the richest collection of rare and unique Viking-age objects ever found in Britain or Ireland.

Discovered by a metal detectorist in Dumfries and Galloway in 2014, the Hoard was allocated to National Museums Scotland in 2017.

In this free exhibitions, which runs until 12 September 2021, see at first hand the Hoard’s cleaned and conserved objects, revealing intricate decoration not seen since the objects' burial more than 1,000 years ago. Delve deeper and examine hidden details found in X-rays, CT scans and 3D models.

Entry to the Galloway Hoard is free with pre-booked museum entry. Please note that physical distancing measures mean that numbers inside the exhibition gallery are limited, and museum entry does not guarantee entry to the exhibition.
