Capella Edina is The City of Edinburgh’s symphony orchestra and the city’s first resident professional orchestra since 1937. Operating under the motto “United by Passion for Music”, its mission is to make orchestral music more accessible and bring people from all different backgrounds together to share the joy of music.
The orchestra consists of a hand-picked group of highly talented musicians. They also collaborate with both up-and-coming artists and seasoned performers.
Capella Edina – Inspiration – Explore John Williams’ Musical Influences takes place on the evening of 16 January 2025 in the city’s Usher Hall.
Much celebrated by film-lovers worldwide, John Williams shows how deeply rooted film music is in classical orchestral writings and that it even continues this tradition. One major form of inspiration while working on the soundtrack for Star Wars was Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s King’s Row, a film score written by a classical composer. Then Bruckner adds to Williams’ influences with his Symphony No. 6.
The Usher Hall is located just off Lothian Road. If travelling to the venue by public transport, Lothian Buses services 1, 10, 11, 15, 16, 24, 34 and 47 all stop outside the venue.
