Looking for a new outdoors activity? Something that’s family friendly and gets the kids outside, or that will give you a different type of exercise with a bit of mental challenge? Want to explore new places? Then maybe orienteering is for you!
Orienteering is an adventure sport that exercises both body and mind. Using a map, the aim is to find the best way round a set of check-points. Choose whether to run or walk, compete with others or do it as an individual challenge. Fun for all ages and abilities, with a choice of different lengths and challenges, there’s something for everyone.

Taking place on the afternoon of Saturday 07 June 2025 at Heriot-Watt campus at Riccarton, Interlopers Orienteering Club invite anyone interested in trying out the sport to come along to this open event.
The Heriot-Watt campus is literally a world-class area for orienteering: it was one of the venues the 2024 World Orienteering Championships, which was held in Edinburgh. Come and orienteer in the footsteps of international elite athletes!
A range of courses of different lengths and challenge will be available, including shorter and easier options for children and families. There’s also a longer-easier course that’s ideal for adult newcomers who want a bit more distance for their run or walk. Club volunteers will be on hand to support newcomers.
Enter in advance to guarantee a map; there will be a limited number of maps available on a first-come-first-served basis on the day. Please get in touch via events@interlopers.org.uk for any queries.
