11th July - 16th July
Various locations throughout the city

Running from 11 to 16 July 2024, the elite races will showcase the fast-paced sport of orienteering in the centre of the capital. Meanwhile, for amateur competitors of all levels, there is the chance to take part in an orienteering race as part of the World Orienteering Championships (WOC) Tour.

Often considered a countryside sport, the WOC 2024 races will take place amidst the urban landscape of Edinburgh. The city’s renowned landmarks, such as Edinburgh Castle and Arthur’s Seat, will set a stunning stage for the elite courses.

Spectators will be able to watch the world’s top orienteering athletes navigate the challenging routes that wind through the city’s historical and cultural sites. Narrow alleyways, steep inclines, and tight staircases will test even the most skilled orienteers as they strive to find the quickest paths to victory.

As well as opportunities to spectate across the city and watch the finishes of the elite races, there will also be the chance to take part in orienteering races as part of the WOC Tour. Six varied races will allow competitors, from those relatively new to the sport up to experienced recreational athletes, to experience the best of urban orienteering. The Tour will be fully integrated into the WOC 2024 programme and will use some of the areas mapped for WOC 2024.
