Interlopers Orienteering Club

Looking for a fun outdoors activity? Something that's family friendly and gets the kids outside, or that will give you a different type of exercise with a bit of mental challenge? Want to explore new places? Orienteering is for you!

Orienteering is an adventure sport that exercises both body and mind. Using a map, the aim is to find the best way round a set of check-points to get them all, in the right order - as a race competing with others or as an individual challenge. You choose whether to run, jog or walk. It’s a lot of fun for all ages and abilities – with a choice of courses of different lengths and challenge, there's something for everyone.

Come along and try it with Interlopers Orienteering Club! We're a friendly and active amateur sports club. We manage two Permanent Orienteering Courses in Edinburgh as well as several in West Lothian. Maps are available to download for free from our website, or from the British Orienteering portal (https://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/permanentorienteeringcourses?removemap=1619). Many of these are also available to try using the Maprun smartphone app.

In addition we hold regular open-to-all events in location around the city, including Braidburn Valley Park, Craigmillar Castle Park, and Colinton Dell amongst others. Courses typically range from 1-6km, with options for beginners as well as more experienced orienteers. Club volunteers are very happy to support newcomers so come and talk to us at an event or get in touch by email or social media. We also have a programme of club training and social events, as well as actively participating in orienteering competitions all over the country - new members are always welcome.
