Scotland is home to internationally important seabird colonies, from the mighty gannets of the Bass Rock to the spectacular puffinries of St Kilda. Over 5 million seabirds breed around our shores each year; and wherever you are along Scotland’s coast the sight and sound of seabirds will be an integral part of your summer seaside experience.

Their 2025 Seabird Photography competition called upon amateur photographers of all ages to capture images that represent Scotland’s amazing seabirds.

This exhibition displays some of the best entries of each of Scotland’s breeding seabirds, including the judges’ overall winner, the judges’ under-18 winner, and each judges’ favourite image.

With two very special judges on side to help choose the winners; zoologist, wildlife TV presenter, author and our Seabird Ambassador Megan McCubbin; and Wildlife Photographer of the Year winner, Bird Photographer of the Year portfolio winner and seabird photographer Rachel Bigsby.

Now they need your help!

Their judges have chosen their winners, but the overall winner, taking home the grand prize of a space on a Bass Rock Landing Trip and £200 in Opticron vouchers, will be chosen by you!

Head along to their exhibition and vote for your favourite to help them decide. The winner will be announced in February 2026.

This exhibition is held in the Boat Office Exhibition Space in the Scottish Seabird Centre.
