Experience the start of global New Year celebrations, steeped in Scottish tradition. Enjoy a carnival atmosphere overflowing with Street TheatreFire Performers and Drummers, before the Massed Pipes and Drums and Vikings from Shetland’s South Mainland Up Helly Aa’ Jarl Squad (SMUHA) lead the procession through the capital’s historic Old Town.

Warm outdoor clothing and suitable footwear is recommended.

This event takes place in the City Centre, where most surfaces are standard roads, cobbled streets or public paths. Please note the Torchlight Procession is an all-standing event with no seating areas available. The route is approximately 1.5km long.
