Hosted by the International Ghost Society at Edinburgh New Town Cookery School, this special cookery class takes a closer look at, and taste of, some of the forgotten foods of this historical period.

While many people associate the years of WWII with rationing, it was also a time of great ingenuity in cooking. Hundreds of new recipes were invented, making use of what was available, and responding to shortages, the national mood, and changing trends.

Participants will be able to mix and enjoy a classic WWII-era cocktail while learning about rationing, communal kitchens, military rations, shortages, exotic foods, and more. Then, they’ll be the opportunity to create a classic dish, such as vinegar cake, Lord Woolton pie, or a mock banana sandwich.

At the end of the evening, they’ll be time to taste your own creations, and take what you’ve cooked home with you. All ingredients are provided, and there’ll be help on hand throughout.
