Mr Wood's Fossils

Dinosaur teeth, mammoth bones, ammonites, trilobites, minerals, crystals, meteorites and jewellery - for the collector and the curious. Since Stan Wood founded the business in the historic Grassmarket in 1987, its reputation has gradually spread. The collections are sourced from all across the world, as the owner travels to trade shows to meet the people that dig and prepare the fossils, mine the minerals, hunt for the meteorites and create the jewellery. This ensures better quality and better prices, as well as a great range of amazing objects.

Among the favourites are enormous teeth from the giant shark, megalodon, lumps of meteorite, 4.54 billion years old, chunks of deep purple amethyst and - of course - dinosaur teeth. The owner - Matt Dale - is a geologist and knows his stuff. Anything you buy comes with a little handwritten label with the information, so you don't forget. Browsers are welcome, and it can often take quite a while to work your way around the shop's displays.
