The Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh

The Royal Lyceum Theatre has been setting the stage in the centre of Edinburgh for over 140 years, not only attracting world-class theatre to Scotland’s capital, but also providing a platform to showcase the best in Scottish theatre.

Sitting in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle, the theatre was designed by Victorian architect C J Phipps in the style of late Victorian ‘playhouse’ theatres.

The elegant façade has changed little over the decades and once inside you are transported back to another era in the 658 seat, Italian Renaissance influenced theatre.

With seating over four levels the auditorium with its blue and gold décor provides an original and iconic place to see a show. There are three elegant bars which are open before, during and after performances with lifts for ease of access to each one.

Lifts provide access to all levels and guide and hearing dogs are welcomed at the theatre where they may attend the performance with their owner or be looked after by a member of the front of house staff. Free tickets are available for carer/companions.

Blue badge parking spaces are available in front of the theatre in Grindlay Street. One transfer wheelchair is available if required by contacting a member of front of house staff on the day. There is a street-level emergency exit.

Information is available in audio, large print and braille and an FM radio wave Hearing Enhancement system has been installed – headsets may be borrowed, free of charge, from the shop in the foyer.

Accessible toilets are available on the ground floor.
