Filming in Edinburgh

“I can honestly say that Film Edinburgh is one of the most useful film offices I’ve ever dealt with” (Duncan Muggoch, Location Manager)

Film Edinburgh is the local Film Commission for Edinburgh, East Lothian and the Scottish Borders. We market the city region as a filming destination, helping filmmakers identify potential locations, putting productions in touch with local crew and services, and ensuring that the city region has film-friendly policies in place so that we are ready to jump when filming takes place. Images of Edinburgh on the screen travel the world and promote the city region as an excellent place to live, visit, invest, study and work.

Film Tourism

Edinburgh is one of the most cinematic cities in the world and images of Edinburgh on screen contribute significantly to the branding of the capital, increasing the attraction of the city for business and leisure tourism alike.

If you loved the film why not visit some of the Edinburgh locations in the movie? We've highlighted the key Edinburgh film locations featured in the movies giving you the opportunity to start exploring the city in the footsteps of your favourite film star!

Locations

Edinburgh has a wealth of locations of all periods” Cindy Thomson, Location Manager, Cloud Atlas.

From city to coastline, medieval to modern, dramatic and domestic, the beauty of Edinburgh, East Lothian and the Scottish Borders is multi-layered. It’s all here. Film Edinburgh provides a free service giving filmmakers access to local knowledge and a database of over 2000 locations.

Locations are right at the heart of our proposition to filmmakers and we are always looking for new properties to show filmmakers. If you are interested in the possibility of filming at your property, whatever it may be, please get in touch.
