Come Celebrate 900 Years of Edinburgh with Community Art and Stories!
The team from Edinburgh Remakery are inviting you to be part of something truly special – our project “Celebrating 900 Years Through Community Art and Stories.” It’s all about bringing together the wonderful people of Edinburgh to share, celebrate, and re-tell the amazing stories of our city through fun and creative art sessions.
Get Creative with Us: Over 2-3 hours, you’ll get to create your own unique piece of art using all sorts of donated materials. Plus, you’ll make an extra piece that will join others in a big, colourful display celebrating everything that makes Edinburgh so special. We have 5 separate workshops to choose from. Come to one, or them all and add your own creative spin to the final artwork!
No Art Skills? No Problem! Whether you’re already creative or just starting out, everyone is welcome! We’ll be working with all kinds of donated or recycled materials like fabric scraps, old maps, wool, ribbons, beads, and buttons – so there’s something for everyone.
Stories to Inspire: Each session kicks off with a fantastic story from one of Edinburgh’s famous authors and these stories inspire the art you create. Imagine hearing poems from Rabbie Burns as you make a red rose, snippets from Sir Walter Scott’s Heart of Midlothian while you sew hearts, or the criminal world of body snatchers from The Falls by Ian Rankin as you fashion coffin dolls. Or, inspired by The Writer’s Museum create beautiful, printed pieces with feathers.
Learn Fun Techniques: You’ll learn all sorts of fun techniques like cutting, sewing, origami, colouring, and painting. No matter your experience level, you’ll find something new and exciting to try.
Create Something Big Together: All the individual art pieces will come together to form a giant, handmade pop-up book that tells the story of Edinburgh through your eyes. This amazing book will be displayed at the Edinburgh Remakery and might even travel to other places around the city like The Writers’ Museum or John Knox House.
Feel Proud: Be part of this community project and feel proud of what we create together. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate Edinburgh’s history and make new friends along the way.
So, why not join us? Come along, get creative, and help us add to Edinburgh’s history! For more details and to be the first to hear about workshop dates email us: hello@edinburghremakery.org.uk and put EDINBURGH 900 in the subject line.
Let’s celebrate Edinburgh together!
