Edinburgh has a well-earned reputation as a city of money. From the late 17th Century onwards. Edinburgh witnessed innovation in all areas of financial services. Its banks, assurance offices and investment trusts have been world leaders and their business models have been copied in many parts of the world. Scottish financiers have been a significant part of the Scottish diaspora as they travelled to many countries to create new institutions and practice their professions. Along the way they have created professional bodies designed to maintain standards and educate the next generation. These standards have been much copied in other countries and their leadership has been maintained into modern times.
Professor Charles Munn OBE FCBI, will take us on a fascinating journey through the development of financial services which has brought so much wealth and success to our city – a role which continues today.
