Andrew Duncan, the elder October (1744 – 1828) was a British physician and professor at Edinburgh University. He was joint founder of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and Sir Henry Raeburn FRSE RA RSA (1756 – 1823) was a British portrait painter and Scotland’s first significant portrait painter since the Union to remain based in Scotland. He served as Portrait Painter to King George IV in Scotland.

Jim Scanlon MBE lives in Leith and is a member of Leith local history society and Leith Rules Golf Society.
