Edinburgh is fortunate to have a variety of local groups that focus on the promotion and preservation of heritage. Alongside this, these groups also offer a range of activities and opportunities including (but not limited to) walks, talks, tours, exhibitions, membership, volunteering, and workshops. There are many ways to get involved with your local heritage group and to engage with your local heritage, so please come along and meet with us at the fair.

The groups that will be available to chat with during this fair include:

Citadel Arts; Portobello Heritage Trust; Edinburgh Printmakers; Living Memory Association; Art & Seat; Heart of Midlothian Football Club; Greater Liberton History Group; Edinburgh Archaeological Field Society; Old Edinburgh Club; Cramond Heritage Trust; Hibernian Football Club Historical Trust, Southside Heritage Group, Edinburgh Lothian and Borders Police Historical Society; Scottish Churches Trust – Edinburgh activities; History of Education Centre (Victorian Schoolroom); and Newhaven Heritage.

All of the groups present at this fair are members of the growing Edinburgh Local Heritage Network, and there will also be information available at the fair about other heritage groups and societies within the city. We are delighted to welcome you to join us for this afternoon of celebration for these groups.

Organiser

Edinburgh Local Heritage Network

This network is for local groups and societies with a focus on the heritage of Edinburgh. The purpose of this network is to develop and maintain partnerships between local heritage groups and with Council services (mainly Archives, Libraries, and Museums and Galleries) so they can better safeguard, enrich and promote the city’s heritage together.

The network meets quarterly and focuses on subjects of interest to local heritage groups. Groups can also raise any specific issues or questions facing them that network members might be able to help with.

The network is open to new members and aims to foster an enthusiastic and collaborative approach to local heritage. To find out more about the network, or to request to join email archives@edinburgh.gov.uk.
