An animated living statue project that sheds light on historic figures whose lives were affected by slavery and the abolitionist movement in Scotland. Based on research undertaken by Lisa Williams for Historic Environment Scotland and African Connections CIC as part of the ‘Tea, Sugar and Rum: Scenes of Witness’ project commissioned for the Edinburgh Multicultural Festival, the project will explore the life stories of African and Scottish residents of Edinburgh in 18th and 19th century Scotland. The project will engage local residents and performers in theatre workshops that will culminate in a public event at Lauriston Castle hosted as part of the Edinburgh Multicultural Festival programme in September 2024 followed by a pop-up tour across Edinburgh throughout the month of October as part of the Black History Month programme.
