Come join us for a night of stories and literature with Donald Smith – a festive celebration of Edinburgh’s 900th anniversary.

This event is part of Edinburgh Libraries’ wider programme of events for Edinburgh 900: the library is also hosting a travelling exhibition of library materials exploring the themes of the Edinburgh 900 Celebrations.

Edinburgh is officially 900 years old, but only 20 years have passed since it was recognised as the world’s first UNESCO City of Literature. To mark these events author, playwrite and Director of the Scottish International Storytelling Festival, Donald Smith, introduces his new book Edinburgh: Our Storied Town (Luath Press).

Donald Smith has written widely about Scotland and Edinburgh, including A History of Scottish Theatre (Ed. Bill Findlay), Storytelling Scotland, and A Pilgrim Guide to Scotland, and co-authored four volumes in Luath Press’s Journey and Evocations: Arthur’s Seat, Calton Hill, The Royal Mile, and Border Dales. He has produced four historical novels (The English Spy, Between Ourselves, Ballad of the Four Marys, Flora McIvor), two story sagas (Saut an Bluid, Storm and Shore) and two story collections (Wee Folk Tales in Scots, and Folk Tales from the Garden).
