Come to see us between 8th and 15th August 2025 at the Edinburgh 900 showcase at St James Quarter unit on Leith Street.

Discover more of the story of a little-known historic building in Edinburgh. Gracemount Mansion – an Edinburgh Treasure, is an extraordinary historic villa dating from around 1790, which is much loved by its community. Our exhibition will showcase the incredible journey of the charity trustees who have campaigned, fundraised and now acquired the building and three acres of grounds in May of this year. The heritage asset has been saved, for the community.

On display we’ll have work by talented students of interior design from Edinburgh University, who have produced inspiring models and drawings, of possible future uses of the building. These students, school pupils and community groups are all welcomed to Gracemount Mansion and grounds for learning and leisure activity based around the Mansion and grounds.

Although the mansion isn’t safe to be inside, yet, Gracemount Mansion Development Trust organise outdoor events and activities for the community. Edinburgh 900 has been celebrated by talented storyteller Jane Mather, working with different groups, from primary pupils using creative writing, to senior members of the community in reminiscence sessions.

The richness of Edinburgh’s diversity is reflected in the welcome for all at Gracemount Mansion.

Gracemount Mansion Development Trust (GMDT’s) vision is for The Mansion, Stable Blocks and surrounding grounds to be a welcoming hub in the heart of the community – a place where we can meet, learn and grow together towards a sustainable future.

Our mission is to develop and reopen The Mansion, surrounding buildings and greenspaces, as a community hub where we can offer a range of learning, training, volunteering, social, environmental and heritage opportunities and activities that benefit the mental and physical health & wellbeing of the community.

We are in the process of raising funds to conserve, renovate and develop the Mansion House and surrounding greenspaces, to enable GMDT to take on community ownership of the asset for the benefit of all.
