Join us in celebration of Edinburgh 900 years of history! Our “Roots for Routes” programme centres on celebrating and honouring heritage and culture, helping us, as individuals and communities, grow towards the future.
This is an one-off event brought to you by MCFB Project ‘Bright Choices’ and the Royal Scottish Academy. In 2020, the RSA received a significant studio gift from the family of sculptor Benno Schotz RSA (1891-1984), who came to Scotland from Estonia in 1912. The exhibition “Benno Schotz and A Scots Miscellany” showcases this important gift alongside the work of first-generation immigrant artists who have made Scotland their home and have gone on to be elected as Royal Scottish Academicians.
This event will include a guided tour by RSA’s Head of Collections, followed by a mini art therapy workshop led by MCFB’s art psychotherapist.
Art therapy offers an additional way of expression, especially when emotions and thoughts are complicated. We at MCFB promote wellbeing through creativity. Whether you are looking for emotional regulation, building resilience, or simply a relaxing time, you are welcome to join us! For this session, we welcome adults (18+) of any background.

MCFB has been supporting BAME families in Edinburgh for 26 years. We and generations of our service users grow with Edinburgh, the capital city that has a long history of providing refuge for people who are dispersed due to persecution and hardships. MCFB walks alongside people from very diverse backgrounds and supports them in finding their position and voice in their new lives in Edinburgh.
