Ocean Terminal has excellent disabled access with accessible toilets, lifts, free parking as well as excellent public transport links.

This reminiscence and oral history project will focus on work, industry and commerce in the city and the experiences of people working in industries such as brewing, distilling, and printing and in locations such as the docks, bonds and the rubber mill. There will also be a focus on shops and retail such as The St Cuthbert’s Association Co-operative stores.

We will be recording the life stories of ordinary working people and showcasing our extensive photo archive to inspire these Edinburgh stories and memories. From the recordings we will be creating a series of project podcasts and, from January 2025, the ‘Our Working City’ will exhibit at our dedicated project space.

If you would like to participate, please email us: comhist@googlemail.com

The Living Memory Association

Founded in 1986, The Living Memory Association is Edinburgh’s only centre solely dedicated to reminiscence work.

At our Wee Museum of Memory, based at Ocean Terminal in Leith, displaying our collection of social history objects, along with our extensive digital archive of photographs, we bring people together. Reminiscence is a process of sharing, where we learn about other people’s lives. Some life experiences can be unique, others common to us all.

We also provide training in reminiscence skills and oral history recording, both in person and online, and have a large collection of reminiscence loans boxes. See our website for details.
