Are you interested in Edinburgh’s archaeological landscape? As part of the Scottish Archaeolgical Research Framework, we are currently working on the final stages of the South East Scotland Archaeological Research Framework (SESARF) project. This event will offer you the chance to be involved in the creation of the final three chapters of SESARF, with opportunities for discussion, questions and feedback relating to the medieval, post medieval and modern chapters. We will explore the final SESARF chapters through short talks and group discussions, and are keen to hear feedback on research questions and draft chapters of the framework.

The event will take place in two main sessions, with lunch, tea and coffee provided and a short drinks reception. A full schedule will be made available as soon as possible.

The SESARF project covers the local authority areas of the City of Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian and the Scottish Borders. It is led by the South East Scotland Archaeology Partnership (SESAP), namely the local archaeology services of East Lothian Council, City of Edinburgh Council, and Scottish Borders Council, and supported by the ScARF project at the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.

Society of Antiquaries of Scotland

The Scottish Archaeological Research Framework (ScARF) is the go-to research resource for Scottish archaeology. It is a free to use website that provides an overview of what we know about Scotland’s past, as well as a set of research questions and recommendations for the future. ScARF is primarily funded by Historic Environment Scotland.

The ScARF project is managed by the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, which is the oldest antiquarian society in Scotland. Since its foundation in 1780, and Royal Charter in 1783 during the Scottish Enlightenment, the Society has provided an active and independent forum for the study, conservation and enjoyment of Scotland’s past. Today, the Society is an independent charitable organisation (SC010440), governed by a voluntary Board of Trustees and run by a small team of staff based in Edinburgh.
