Proving you don’t need to go far for an adrenaline-fuelled experience, Lost Shore Surf Resort at Ratho is a state-of-the-art surf lake set within a 60-acre country park.

Opening in Autumn 2024, not only will it be the world’s first inland surf resort, but it will also be the largest wave pool in Europe.

Open throughout the year, they’ll be surfing fun for everyone – from beginnings to Olympic athletes. And when it’s time to cool down, they’ll also be a luxury accommodation, food market, shopping, and a wellness spa.


Indoor rock climbing

Access Parkour provides classes and training for all levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners.


Paddleboarding and windsurfing

Located beside the Forth Bridges, Port Edgar Watersports are Scotland’s number one watersports centre and it’s easy to see why.

Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience under your belt, their classes in sailing, canoeing, sea kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing and powerboating are a great way to learn how to feel safe on the water. Both adult and children’s classes are available.


Skiing and snowboarding

If you’re looking for fun on the slopes, head along to Midlothian Snowsports Centre.

Set into the hillside of Pentland Hills Regional Park this is Britain’s biggest artificial slope and with 2 main slopes, 3 nursery slopes and fun slope, there’s something to satisfy every level of ability.

Skiing and snowboarding lessons are available for adults, juniors and tiny tots (4 to 7 years). Disability Snowsport UK run a range of adaptive lessons.


Curling

A strategic and social game that can be enjoyed by all ages and abilities, curling involves sliding stones on a sheet of ice towards a target area.

Curl Edinburgh offer taster curling sessions if you fancy trying your hand at this cool sport.


Fencing

Engage in the art of swordsmanship with fencing, an elegant sport which improves agility, reflexes and strategic thinking.

Salle Holyrood Fencing Club provide training programmes and competitive opportunities and is open to ages 8+. Wheelchair fencing is also available.


Roller Derby

Get your adrenaline pumping with roller derby, a high-energy, full-contact sport played on roller skates.

Join Auld Reekie Roller Derby and learn the skills needed to compete in this fast-paced and fiercely competitive sport.


Quadball

Similar to the game of Quidditch that appears in the Harry Potter books and films, Quadball involves two teams of seven players, each comprising three chasers, one keeper, two beaters and one seeker. Combining elements of rugby, dodgeball, and tag, it’s a full-contact sport that’s as challenging as it is fun.
