The Green Tourism Awards are accolades given to restaurants, attractions and accommodation providers that have excelled in a range of sustainable benchmarks. These can include energy and water efficiency, waste management, biodiversity and community involvement.

They are continuously working to innovate and create new initiatives to protect our planet with focuses on energy, waste, water, paper and plastic. Some of which include movement sensitive lighting, recycled paper and reusable metal tags in the cloakroom, time sensitive water taps, glass bottles instead of plastic and plastic-free in-room amenities.

Known as one of Scotland’s top golf resorts, Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club offers elegant rooms, exceptional dining experiences, two 18-hole golf courses and a range of leisure facilities including a spa and fitness centre.

With an aim to become Edinburgh’s most sustainable country house hotel, they take great action to meet this goal. Measures include reducing pollution emissions and conserving the precious green space around their hotel by allowing bee nests into their golf courses, allowing animal habitats to flourish. They also expect similar environmental standards from all their suppliers and contractors.

Located adjacent to Edinburgh Airport, DoubleTree by Hilton Edinburgh Airport is just a 30 minute drive from Edinburgh city centre. Guests can expect high quality, comfortable rooms, an indoor pool, spa, fitness centre and all-day dining at The Space.

Their green goals involve using renewable power to ensure energy efficiency and reducing water usage and waste.

Green Tourism Award: Silver

Just steps away from the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle, Fraser Suites Edinburgh offers stylish and contemporary serviced apartments in the heart of the city. Housed in a beautiful 130 year old building, the accommodation includes 75 elegant and fully-serviced rooms.

They are proud owners of the Silver Green Tourism Award and have implemented a variety of sustainability measures. These include environmentally-friendly housekeeping, computerised in-room directories, the elimination of all single-use plastics and the use of eco-friendly team uniforms.

The hotel has developed on online environmental sustainability system to support themselves and other hotels to reduce their energy, waste, and water consumption.

All of Holyrood ApartHotel’s apartments near the Royal Mile are designed to give a light, contemporary style. Accommodation ranges from studio apartments to double twin apartments that can sleep up to five visitors.

To reduce their environmental impact, they provide cleaning services only when required, thus cutting down on unnecessary power, water and linen usage.

They have adopted many sustainable practises such as energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the hotel, refillable shower amenities, the removal of plastic straws in all of their restaurants and bars, as well as sourcing fresh ingredients from local farms to reduce carbon emissions.

Situated on scenic Corstorphine Hill, Leonardo Hotel Edinburgh Murrayfield is a great destination for visitors who opt for a peaceful place amongst Scotland’s lively capital. The hotel has an indoor swimming pool, sauna and fitness centre, as well as a restaurant and bar.

Some of their energy-saving measures include routinely inspecting insulation, installing motion-activated lighting and sensors, and training employees on energy-saving techniques.

They have an annual energy and water consumption reduction target of 3%, a 70% waste recycling target and a plan of working towards using renewable energy. Additionally, they provide all team members with sustainability training and encourage environmentally friendly commutes through their transportation schemes.

They aim to educate teams and guests on sustainable practises, minimise single-use plastics and take part in local recycling programmes to reduce waste. One of their most impactful decisions was to switch to 100% renewable energy in 2023, as well as offering fully electric vehicle charging points.
