New technology, which shows brainwaves in real time and in 3-D, is being brought to Scotland by Art Fund – the national charity for art – as the last stop of a UK-wide tour.
The tech will be available to try in the new Scottish galleries of National Galleries Scotland: National between 10am and 1pm on Thursday 25 July and 10am and 5pm on Friday 26 July 2024.
The project highlights how people’s brains are stimulated when they experience art in museums and galleries and aims to help answer the question of the fundamental value of art and the impact it has on us.
Visitors of all ages are invited to take part by viewing art or artefacts while wearing a headset that is connected to an electroencephalogram (EEG) monitor. The outputs of their brainwaves as they react to the art are then visualised on-screen in 3D and real-time.
Entry to National Galleries Scotland: National is free, and National Art Pass holders can get 50% off exhibition entry for ticketed shows.
National Galleries Scotland: National has a range of accessibility features, including wheelchairs available to borrow free of charge, accessible and a partial Changing Places Toilet, seating throughout and portable stools on every floor, and lifts with audio announcements.
