This June, in celebration of Pride month, join The Real Mary King’s Close for the educational and thought-provoking Pride History Tours, designed to reveal the often-overlooked histories of LGBTQIA+ lives in Edinburgh from the 16th century through to the early 20th century.

Through immersive storytelling in the very streets where history unfolded, discover the real people whose lives, identities, and contributions helped shape the city. Led by historical figures such as Robert Fergusson and Marie Maitland, the tour brings to light stories of creativity, resilience, and change. Along the way, learn more about pioneering individuals including James Barry and Sophia Jex-Blake.

Grounded in research and delivered with sensitivity, this thought-provoking experience explores how language, law, and society shaped LGBTQIA+ lives across centuries, offering a deeper understanding of Edinburgh’s social history.

The Pride History Tour takes place within the historic underground streets of The Real Mary King’s Close. Due to the nature of this preserved site, the experience includes multiple steps, uneven surfaces, and low lighting throughout. Unfortunately, step-free access is not available, and the tour is not suitable for wheelchair users.

The tour is delivered in English only and does not include audio guides. This experience explores historical themes that may be sensitive for some visitors.
