This evening event will comprise a reception, followed by the opportunity to hear two speakers, Professor Christos Lynteris and Dr Janet Scott. Christos will discuss the history of infectious diseases while Janet will discuss modern infectious diseases. Afterwards, there will be the opportunity to visit the new exhibition.
The new exhibition, Poxed: Germs in History, which runs from 30 October 2026 to 09 July 2027, uses books, illustrations and objects from the college’s collections to explore the changing history of humanity’s relationship with microorganisms. From fear and superstitions to scientific discoveries, from magic spells to vaccines, it looks at the human cost of epidemic diseases and the ways germs have changed the way we live today.
Exhibition Launch of Poxed: Germs in History takes place on 29 October 2026. Advance booking is required.
