New Town

29th July - 30th September
Free admission; booking required

Taking place of the last Wednesday of the month, these talks each focus on a different area of science and the humanity of medicine. Upcoming events include:

  • Spotlight: Antimony, 29 July 2026: Discover about the medicinal use of antimony. Poisonous, vomit-inducing, illegal and in high demand, antimony was the go-to medicine for fashionable types. Free entry, but booking required.
  • Spotlight: Straitjacket, 30 September 2026: Supported as a mark of medical progress in 1700s Europe, hated by patients and criticised by Victorian reformers – the straitjacket has a controversial history. Free entry, but booking required.

Book talks are free to attend, but with pre-booking required.

For details of all upcoming events, see Physicians’ Gallery.
