The play is scripted by members of Citadel Arts Group’s playwrights’ workshop, who meet every week in Leith Dockers Club to develop new plays often based on local heritage and living memories. Getting Along with Gran is inspired by the powerful stories of the Social History Group based in Royston Wardieburn Community Centre, with both groups of older people collaborating to create the play.
The cast includes professional and community performers, including children from the Be Happy Performing Arts Company from Gorebridge.
Taking place at Leith Dockers Club on 12 November 2026, there will be performances at 2.30pm and 7pm. The venue, which is on Academy Street, is a short distance from the Foot of Leith Walk, which is well served by Lothian Buses. The nearest Edinburgh Trams stop is Foot of the Walk.
