To celebrate their 20th anniversary, The Real Mary King’s Close are giving visitors the chance to explore this 5-star attraction themselves. See for yourself over 400 years of history from Edinburgh’s past, all hidden underneath the city’s famous Royal Mile.
Normally only accessible by guided tour, for the first time since people lived, worked and died on the streets beneath Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, the site of The Real Mary King’s Close will once again bustle with life.
Book a 2-hour timeslot and roam the preserved shops and streets at your own leisure and meet thirteen residents of The Close along the way. Maybe you’ll bump into John Paulitious, the ominous plague doctor as he goes to treat another patient. Or perhaps you’ll stop for a chat with the esteemed poet, Robert Fergusson.
Whichever corner you turn around, they’ll be a new story about this famous Close to discover.
Underground Unlocked takes place on Thursday 25 May. Entry times are available for 18.30-18.40 / 18.40-18.50 / 18.50-19.00 and 19.00-19.10
