This summer, visitors are invited to wander through Carfrae Farm’s spectacular 20 hectare wildflower meadow – a vibrant sea of purple phacelia that’s as beneficial for wildlife as it is beautiful to explore. Grown to support bees, butterflies and other vital pollinators while improving soil health, the meadow offers a wonderful opportunity to experience farming and nature working hand in hand.
Free to visit and just 50 minutes from Edinburgh, it’s the perfect outing for families, children, dog walkers, photographers or anyone looking for a peaceful escape in the countryside. Set in the foothills of the Lammermuirs, the meadow enjoys breathtaking panoramic views stretching to the East Lothian coast, across the Firth of Forth to Fife and, on clear days, as far as Perthshire.
To access the wildflower meadow at Carfrae Farm, park at the farm shop where the farm shop team and wildflower signage will direct you. The meadow is 3 minutes walk from the shop.
Afterwards, visitors can round off their visit with coffee, cake or an ice cream at the award-winning Carfrae Farm Shop.
Wildflower Meadow is accessible to All Terrain Wheelchairs and there is also a disabled toilet available at the farm shop.
