Prior to the First World War Adam Bruce Thomson produced an etching titled ‘Edinburgh – Canal Basin (1913)’ which is in the City Art Centre Collection and features in the exhibition. This complementary lecture by our regular speaker, Jackie Sangster from ‘Scran’, will explore the canal ways in and around Edinburgh looking at wider archival images. Setting sail from Falkirk in 1822, we’ll take an archival cruise along the Union Canal to Edinburgh – along the way we’ll be looking at industrial heritage on the waterway and social history along the canal side, to drop anchor in the present day.
